The Painted Woods came about when sisters Martha Woods Dooley and Mary Ann Woods Miller decided to combine their love of drawing and painting with furniture. Mary Ann has always enjoyed finding furniture bargains at yard sales and estate sales. She stays on the look-out for unusual and interesting pieces. Some are a bit whimsical, but that’s Mary Ann! She also has fun rummaging for accessories such as lamps, vases, and framed pictures that can be used “as is” or painted.
Martha has been painting furniture since her teens and after taking Annie Sloan Chalk Paint classes discovered an entirely different way to achieve new looks for gently used furniture. She makes each piece of furniture an original work of art, often with a painted surprise in a drawer or behind a cabinet door.
The sisters’ enthusiasm is contagious as they talk about their latest find and how they intend to repurpose it into something new and different. Martha and Mary Ann agree they are very blessed to be sisters and excited to be partners in their business venture.
